suPURDUEper Robotics (FRC Team 7457) Makes History with Third Consecutive Indiana State Championship
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — suPURDUEper Robotics, FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Team 7457, capped off a historic 2026 season by securing its third consecutive Indiana State Championship, becoming the first team in Indiana district history, per available records to achieve a three-peat at the state level.
The team posted an outstanding 57-12-0 official match record this season, highlighted by dominant performances at multiple events. Team 7457 went undefeated at both the Columbus District Event (17-0) and the Lafayette District Event (17-0) before capturing the Indiana Robotics State Championship with a 14-4 record.
In addition to their tournament victories, suPURDUEper Robotics earned several prestigious honors, including the Autonomous Award at three events (Mishawaka, Lafayette, and the Indiana State Championship) and the Innovation in Control Award at Columbus.
The team’s success is powered by a growing program of 34 students and 7 mentors, including two alumni who have returned to support the next generation. The team expanded from just 14 students in 2023 under the leadership of the robotics coaching staff, including Head Coach Andy Mundell.
“We are proud of what our students have been able to accomplish and the mentors who have helped them achieve those goals,” Mundell said. “It's wonderful to win these events, but it's even more wonderful to see our students get excited about STEM. The program is not about building robots as much as it is about building students through robots.”
Team 7457 has demonstrated both consistency and resilience. They achieved a remarkable 37-match winning streak, surpassing their previous record of 36 consecutive wins. In a testament to their commitment to continuous improvement, the team conducted a complete robot teardown and rebuild in the two weeks between their Lafayette victory and the State Championship.
At the State Championship, Team 7457 partnered with Maverick Robotics (Team 4272, McCutcheon High School) and Red Alert (Team 1741, Center Grove High School) to secure the title.
Looking ahead, suPURDUEper Robotics will represent Indiana on the global stage as one of 12 teams from the state qualifying for the FIRST Championship in Houston, Texas, from April 29 – May 2. Notably, the team has qualified for the World Championship every year it has been held since its founding, excluding the COVID-19 cancellation year.
Founded in 2019, Team 7457 has quickly built a legacy of excellence:
12 Blue Banners (Event Wins)
3 Indiana State Championships (2024, 2025, 2026)
At their peak this season, the team was ranked as high as 17th in the world, and currently sits at 61st in the United States and 78th globally.
