Two Pacers Bikeshare stations opening on near eastside
Indy’s ever-expanding Pacers Bikeshare system opened its 56 th and 57 th stations in the Englewood neighborhood on the near eastside this week.
The two new stations are located at:
Purdue Polytechnic High School (PPHS), located at E. Washington St. and S. Parker Ave
St. Lucas Lofts, an affordable housing development located at E. New York and Rural Street
These are the first two Pacers Bikeshare stations to be funded by a high school and for a housing development, respectively.
“Providing free access to Pacers Bikeshare for Marion County residents makes it more attractive for partners to invest in stations that serve their communities. We’re grateful to PPHS and Englewood CDC for their investment in these two new stations that will serve the eastside community,” said Kären Haley, executive director of the Indianapolis Cultural Trail, which manages Pacers Bikeshare. “The IndyRides Free annual pass program and the addition of e-bikes to the Pacers Bikeshare have transformed how many Marion County residents move through the city,”
PPHS received the Health Issues & Challenges Grant from the Indiana Department of Health in 2022. Thanks to their generous support, PPHS worked with Indianapolis Cultural Trail and the Englewood Community Development Corporation to install a Pacers Bikeshare station at the PPHS Englewood campus.
Englewood Community Development Corporation centered the development of St. Lucas Lofts around transit accessibility as a way to provide housing that was not dependent on cars. In addition to having a Pacers Bikeshare station outside, St. Lucas Lofts is along several IndyGo bus routes and will have a Blue Line Bus Rapid Transit stop nearby in the future.
“The Pacers Bikeshare Station will allow both the residents of St. Lucas Lofts and surrounding neighbors ease of access to get around the City and provide an opportunity for bicycle education,” said Abigail Lane, Director of Near Eastside Initiative for Englewood CDC. “St. Lucas Lofts also includes generous space for bike parking and is located near the new New York and Michigan Street bike lane extensions, making it easy and safe for people to get to and from downtown on a bike and to the Pennsy Trail and Irvington.”
Marion County residents may request an IndyRides Free pass at pacersbikeshare.org/indy-rides-free/. Once Marion County residency is verified, registrants will receive an access code to activate their IndyRides Free pass.
An IndyRides Free annual pass grants access to unlimited 30-minute trips. After 30 minutes, a usage fee of $0.25 per minute applies until the bike is returned to any Pacers Bikeshare station. Since it launched in the spring of 2024, the IndyRides Free program has led to record-breaking ridership each month for the city’s Pacers Bikeshare program.
Indianapolis is the first city in the United States to offer free bikeshare annual passes to all county residents. IndyRides Free is made possible through support from the Herbert Simon Family Foundation and Pacers Sports & Entertainment. No local, state, or federal tax dollars are used to support IndyRides Free.
